Because of the medium texture that this wood present due to the size of its pores, to obtain a finished with 100% of full pore, we recommend to use a sealing –pore or apply at least three hands of sealer before applying the final finishing.
Because of the problem of blue stain, if it is not possible to maintain its natural and homogeneous color of this wood, its preferable to use dyes.

To increase its resistance against termite attacks its recommended to apply with a paintbrush over the rustic wood some preservative and then give the preferable finishing.

Uses

Drying
This wood is easy to dry; it dries outdoors at slow speed, developing moderate defects. Drying programs T5-D3 and T3-D2 for 1” and 2” boards (respectively) are recommended for drying this wood in conventional ovens.

Natural durability
Moderately durable wood; standing trees are susceptible to borer attacks, in regards to termite attacks, and it is also considered moderately resistant and susceptible to marine borer attacks.

Workability
It is moderately easy to work on; however, protective gear must be used due to the irritant dust it gives off, which can affect the skin. It shows poor performance in planing and turning, excellent for drilling, good performance for chiseling and molding, poor sanding and very difficult to nail.
In terms of finish, this species does not tend to absorb much sealer due to its medium sized pores. It accepts all types of dyeing, which is a favorable advantage, given the color and striping variations it presents. Transparent lacquers are recommended for the final finish of this species since they enhance its color and striping.

Uses
Linear furniture, doors, windows, wood sheet, medium traffic floors, tool handles, sports equipment. It should be noted that, in order to work this wood, protective measures should be taken due to the irritation it causes on the throat and skin.

Drying
Outdoor drying is moderately easy, occurring at a very slow rate with the development of moderate drying defects, especially cracks and flaws.

Drying programs T3-C2 and T3-C1 for 1” and 2” boards (respectively) are recommended for drying this wood in conventional ovens.

Natural durability
This species offers high natural durability and it is fungus and termite resistant. The standing tree, however, is quite susceptible to borer attacks.

Workability
Since this wood is difficult to work with manual tools and traditional machinery, we recommend to keep blades at all times, with adequate angles and cutting edges, especially when working with high speed steel blades; carburized blades can increase performance up to three fold. It shows poor performance in planing and turning, excellent for molding, drilling and chiseling, good to excellent for sanding and difficult to nail. Due to its medium-sized pores, it’s necessary to apply two to three coats of sealer to achieve a good finish. This wood boasts a very beautiful, pronounced striping, making the transparent finish the most appropriate one. In general this wood finishes very smoothly.

Uses
Production of high quality, linear and turned furniture, carpentry in general, doors and windows for interiors and exteriors, kitchen cabinetry and similar, general construction, floors, shock-resistant tool and sport equipment handles.
